Yobe state record 471 strange death in 3weeks

As strange deaths continue to ravage some States in Nigeria. Yobe State has confirmed another staggering figure.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad
Lawan Gana, confirmed that 471 people have died in the State in past three weeks.
Dr Gana however stated that most of the people that died were mostly elderly people, adding that the total figure was put together between the last week of April and the second week of May.
According to the Commissioner, most of the casualties were recorded in Potiskum, which is the business capital of Yobe State, Nguru, Gashu’a and Damaturu the state capital.
Giving details of cause of deaths after verbal autopsy, The Commisioner said, “57 per cent of the total deaths had an underlying chronic illness, which include fever, hypertension, diabetes, renal disease, maternal mortality and accident victims,” saying their ages start from 50 years and the majority of them were males.
“Sixteen of the 471 deceased relatives revealed someone with similar symptoms, and all were investigated and referred to a facility, while three out of the 16 met case definition of COVID-19,” he said.
